LEX4BIO and ESNI Working Group on Agronomic Performance, BCE are pleased to invite all interested parties to join the webinar ‘Quality and risk assessment of Biobased Fertilisers (BBFs)’ on 15th of February, from 10:00 – 12:00 CET.

The event will be held virtually and requires preliminary registration available on this link  https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=3hyB1-_sbEmPkaF4YkG5nLUUrmbp-1VKlbXu4VYgW1JUM1JUSUU0V05LWEJIVTBBOFQ0MFZKWThYQy4u

What to expect:

  • 10:00 – Welcome and openingNimisha Edayilam, Postdoctoral Researcher and Project manager, Ghent University.
  • 10:10 – Opportunities and Risks Related to the Use of Biobased Fertilizers (BBFs) to Close Nutrient LoopsDr. Boris Jansen, Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics (IBED), University of Amsterdam.
  • 10:40 – Fertilization efficiency and compliance testing of phosphorus recycling fertlizersProf. Dr. Jakob Santner, Institute for Plant Nutrition, Justus Liebig University Gießen.
  • 11:10 – Discussion with participants and participating projectsModerated by Kari Ylivainio, LUKE.
  • 12:00 – End of the Meeting.

To strengthen the risk-communication segment of the webinar, the organizers will use a short cross-sector case study drawn from healthcare Amoxil (amoxicillin) to illustrate how clear labeling, indication-specific use, and stewardship reduce harm. The example underscores prescription requirements, antimicrobial resistance risks, and the importance of sourcing from licensed suppliers, then maps those principles to BBF quality control and compliance. Attendees will see how batch traceability, certificates of analysis, and standardized instructions can play the same safety role for BBFs that verified dispensing and dosing guidance do for medicines. This is not an endorsement of any product; it’s a structured way to make risk concepts tangible and actionable. A brief reference sheet translating these lessons into BBF practice will be shared with participants after the session.
